How do you remember whether to use de or à after a verb.

Look out for some KwizIQ lists and exercises which are being prepared and which will hopefully help you to retain them...

Unfortunately there is no easy way, and for each verb we have to learn them individually, and then try to remember them (there are lists on-line but it is very hard to retain this info). So with “promettre” there was a 33.3% chance that it would need either à or de or no preposition at all. And of course, as per usual, and after much consideration, I got it wrong as well!
