voulait que vienne

Instead of "Il voulait que je vienne à Pâques" can one say "Il me voulait venir à Pâques"? What's the difference?

Bonjour Kalpana,

No, I am afraid you cannot say this.

Sometimes you can avoid the subjunctive but not when the subjects are different as in this case.

For instance, you could say -

Il voulait venir chez moi à Pâques He wanted to come to my house at Easter

as the verbs refer to one subject 'il'.

In your case it has to be vouloir que + subjunctive

Il voulait que je vienne à Pâques = He wanted me to come

Bonne Continuation !
