Why not "Tenter" instead of "Essayer" for "Try"

Just to add to Chris' answer, 'tenter' is too formal here ...

Tenter and essayer are very similar in meaning. Tenter involves more of an element of risk than essayer, though. It would be like, "to take a chance to do something".
