An English error in a quiz question.

In one quiz question it states :

Quand j'étais enfant, ________ au chœur du collège.

When I was a child, I used to belong to the high school choir.

(HINT: Use "appartenir" (to belong))

The correct English for collège is middle school. Lycée is high school.

There is no standard 'English language' definition for the school levels - even 'middle school' and 'high school' are not universally used terms in English-speaking countries. There is no direct alignment of the French standard school system classification and the various English language systems in use world-wide. Both collège and lycée cover some of the years of 'high school' in some parts of the English speaking world. You may be referring to what the levels are in your region - these are not the same everywhere.

The translation is not critical to understanding the lesson or answering the question, and although different to your expectation, it is not necessarily "wrong".

If someone is learning French, i believe they need to understand the appropriate French terms that are used for France school levels.

The terms used for the levels of the education system in France are covered in lessons and answers here, or easily searched online.

Just as English-speaking countries choose their own system and names, other French-speaking countries can use other systems and words if they wish.
