…any form of article / determinant?

I’ve no idea what a determinant or partitive article is - could you please extend the list of examples beyond ‘un/une/le/la...’ as this topic is really confusing.

Bonjour David,

A determinant or an article is a word that is place before a noun to indicate its gender (masculine/feminine) and its number (singular/plural):

Un chat = A cat

 -> masculine + singular

Une fleurA flower

 -> feminine + singular

La voiture = The car

 -> feminine + singular

Les fruits The fruits

 -> masculine + plural

Des enfants (Some) kids

 -> masculine + plural

Take a look at the links below to find out more about determinants/articles and partitive articles:

Article partitif

I hope this is helpful.

Bonne journée !

Lawless has a good summary of déterminants: https://www.lawlessfrench.com/grammar/determiners/

Incidentally, I think the French word déterminant is more often translated as “determiner” in English (a determinant is something that determines an outcome as well as a mathematical function)
