Article or preposition?

Article or preposition?

Why is it "en weekend" instead of "un weekend"?  Surely, the article is called for rather than the preposition.  Thanks.

Hi Gary,

The sentence which comes at the end of the exercise is the following one -

il m'emmenait en weekend en Toscane he was taking me to Tuscany for the weekend

Marielle had to get ready for a surprise anniversary gift so it cannot be 'un weekend' as it would mean in the future, with no fixed date.

partir en weekend to go away for the weekend

Hope this helps!

To save me the time to go through the exercise just to identify the one sentence you inquire about, it would be great if you could post the sentence here in its entirety.
