Chez moi or chez nouse

The answer to “I’m going home” is: Je rentre chez moi.  Why is “chez nous” not acceptable?

That's an interesting question Jo!

You would only use 'chez nous' if you were talking to someone who lived with you in the same house. We accept 'à la maison' as it is suitably vague.

You would say to someone you live with -

On rentre chez nous ? Shall we go home?

Hope this helps!

Just as in English, you’d say, “Let’s go to our place!” only if the person lived with you in the same household.
