faire les magasins vs faire du shopping

faire les magasins vs faire du shopping

I have read the answers in the discussion where this has been raised previously and reread the lesson which says both are correct.  Then the quiz question regarding "sales" is still marked incorrect when  "faire du shopping" is submitted as an answer. Why?

Hi Kay,

I have checked the 'sales' question in this lesson and both

'Je vais faire du shopping'

and

'Je vais faire les magasins'

are given as correct answers.

So if one of these is being marked incorrect, please use the Report it button on your correction board or contact the helpdesk to report it.

Hi Kay,

I imagine that "faire du shopping" is not specific enough with regards to "sales". "Faire les magasins" is more focused on shops where "sales" are normally found.

This is my immediate speculation  --  hope it helps?

Jim

"Faire du shopping" usually refers to buying groceries or daily necessities.
"Faire les magasins" is what "going to the mall" would be in the US: you browse different stores, mainly looking for clothes.
