Hi Pamela,

Commander à (qqn) de faire (qch) is the format to direct/tell/order someone to do something.

Otherwise, the verb "commander" is transitive as in "demander" (qch)

The verb ordonner is a possibility:

Je vous ordonne de vous rendre. -- I order you to surrender.
