I think when I was learning French years ago I was taught, "Qui est-ce que vous êtes?" to make the question with est-ce que. Is that too formal?

Hi Kris, 

It's the opposite, 

"Qui est-ce que vous êtes?"

is very informal.

I think when I was learning French years ago I was taught, "Qui est-ce que vous êtes?" to make the question with est-ce que. Is that too formal?
