Hi Chioma,

Normally you will not have a 'de' after espérer and another verb as in to hope to do.

It is archaïc and you will find it mainly in literature...

J'espère ne pas vous avoir fait attendre trop longtemps pour répondre à votre question....

Bonne continuation!

Cecile I desperately want to put  'que' in your sentence 'J'espère ne pas vous avoir fait attendre...' as in
'J'espère ne pas que vous avoir fait attendre..' This is just me being literally english, but it feels wrong without it.

Cecile please ignore my last . Utter nonsense. But I do wonder, doesn't the ne pas where it is mean i don't hope, why isn't it afert 'vous' to qualify avoir etc?

Hi Chris,

You could say -

J'espère que je ne vous ai pas fait attendre trop longtemps ...

but quite wordy.

I am not sure about the last part of your query ...
