(Histoire de ma vie) I have the desire to write a novel or I have no more the desire to write a novel. What means : se passer qchose?

I am not sure if this is from one of our exercises but it is an interesting use of 'se passer' so thank you.

 Se passer la fantaisie de faire quelque chose = satisfaire un caprice 

I would say the English might be to indulge a fancy ? here,  to write a novel.

Google Translate renders it as "I gave up the fantasy of writing a novel."
