L'avion vs le vol

Question

How come in the 3rd sentence, "l'avion" is used and in the rest of the excerpt, "le vol" is used?

Le vol is the "flight" on which the aeroplane (l'avion) will travel.
"L'avion" is the mode of travel as opposed to a hot-air balloon or paraglider or any other form of air transportation.
The lady has arranged for the particular flight "le vol" to take place by "l'avion of choice" of the client (customer).

Hi A,
Just to add to Jim's excellent answer, they are two different things although in English they are both used quite loosely we are more precise in French.

Je devais prendre l'avion = I was supposed to take the plane/ to fly
Je devais prendre le vol BA 345 = I was supposed to take flight BA345
soixante jours avant votre vol = sixty days before your flight
un vol à 8h15 = a flight at 8.15 am
