Nouvel An vs. nouvelle année?

Why isn't nouvelle année not in caps?

Bonjour Johnny,

In French, "le Nouvel An" (also written as "Le jour de l'An" / "le premier de l'An") refers to the actual religious bank holiday while "nouvelle année" is simply the generic expression. Therefore, the latter does not include any capital letters.

I hope this is helpful.

Bonne journée !

If you quoted the entire sentence, I would probably be able to shed some light on this.
