Pendant des longtemps

Bonjour,

Can I use des longtemps as the duration with pendant, ie, je vais vivre en france pendant des longtemps? Or is longtemps not considered a specific time frame?

Merci :)

HI Chesca,

Longtemps is an indefinite time frame which is 'long' in length of time but the expression 'pendant des longtemps' doesn't exist in French as Chris says you might be thinking of 'pendant longtemps' which means 'for a long time'.

Here are a few examples using this expression :

Pendant longtemps j'ai cru qu'il était l'homme de ma vie = I believed he was the man of my life for a long time

J'ai l'intention de vivre en France pendant longtemps I intend to live in France for a long time

Elle a appris l'espagnol à l'école pendant longtemps = She learnt Spanish at school for a long time

Hope this helps!
