In the lesson below, it is stated that "se coucher" means "to go to bed"
Conjugate reflexive verb se coucher in the present tense in French (Le Présent)
However, when I wrote "puis il se couche" as corresponding sentence for "then he goes to bed" in the last part of the exercise, it was marked as a mistake and the correct one shown as "puis il va se coucher"
Could you please advise which one is correct ? or have I misunderstood something ?

After discussing this answer, we've accepted it as a correct option. However, it is far better to use "aller se coucher". Using "il se couche" would mean that he is lying down right where he is at that time.

Above is copied and pasted from the lesson text.
Note that it uses "he goes to bed" this is where the verb aller is expected.
"puis il va se coucher" --> then he goes to lie himself down.
By writing "puis il se couche" --> then he lies himself down.
So returning to the opening text " then he goes to bed." I think, on close inspection; you will see that you have simply missed the "aller" ( Il va ..) component that is required.
