Si vs trop

Si vs trop

Salut! Would “trop” be accepted instead of “si” in the sentences. I used it in both the sentences in the passage but they were corrected to “si”. Is there a difference? Thank you

Hi Rhea,

I think you are referring to the casual use of 'trop' for 'si' in everyday street language as in -

trop bien! so so good

Trop relou ! (= Trop lourd) = It sucks!

Trop in this sense means so so much but as its real meaning is 'too much' it cannot be accepted in this context.

If you are interested in some slang expressions for 'street' French here is a useful page to have a look at

Hope this helps!

trop -- too (in the sense of too much of some property)
si -- so

La robe est trop petite. -- The dress is too small.
Cette robe est si petite ! -- This dress is so small!
