Subjunctive conjugation for "Nous" and "Vous"

Hi,

I read from a text book that I use (Inspire B1) and it says to conjugate Je/Tu/Il/Elle/On/Ils/Elles we do as what is described in this lesson.

However, for "Nous" and "Vous", the general rule is that we take the "Présent" form of "Vous", remove the "ez" ending and replace it with "ions" and "iez". I check with verbs such as "Prendre" and "Mouvoir" and it is correct.

Can anyone verify this ?

Bonjour An,

I think an easier way would be to take the nous and vous forms of the imparfait as they are often the same ending.

For regular verbs ending in ER like 'parler'

nous parlions, vous parliez (imparfait)

que nous parlions, que vous parliez (subjonctif)

Regular verbs ending in IR like 'finir'

nous finissions , vous finissiez (imparfait)

que nous finissions, que vous finissiez (subjonctif)

Regular verbs ending in RE - 'vendre'

nous vendions, vous vendiez (imparfait)

que nous vendions, que vous vendiez (subjonctif)

With irregular verbs, it will depend. 'Prendre' is irregular, but the rule still works, and it is the case for an irregular like 'mouvoir'.

prenions, preniez , mouvions, mouviez

So it is always best with irregular verbs just to check if this rule still holds or not.

Avoir - avions, aviez ..... que nous ayons, que vous ayez

Être - étions, étiez .... que nous soyons, que vous soyez

Faire - faisions, faisiez ..... que nous fassions, que vous fassiez

etc.

Hope this helps!
