te vs vous

te vs vous

Ton costume de pèlerin ________parfaitement. Your pilgrim costume suits you perfectly. In this question I answered "vous va"   The "vous" being the indirect pronoun. The correct answer was "te va"  I thought they are both "you" just one is singular and informal and the other is formal singular and plural.  Is this not correct.  How do I know which is correct?

Chris W.C1 Kwiziq Q&A super contributor Correct answer

The first part of the sentence starts with ton costume ("your costume", as in a single person). Therefore the second part must also be second person singular: te va and not vous va.

Hi Kay,

Just to add to Chris' answer, the three forms of you which are possible would be -

Ton costume te va bien

Votre costume vous va bien

Vos costumes vous vont bien

Bonne Continuation!
