I understood that the french for ' an app' was 'une appli' but this wasn't given as an option. Am I incorrect?

Thank you for pointing this out, we have indeed added 'une appli' to the possibilities.
I'm sure as Maarten says, that 'une app' is possible too as the French have the tendency to shorten a lot of words (to my horror !!!)

the ' correct' French expression is ' une application ', but both ' app ' and ' appli ' are listed as abbreviations by Robert.
At least on most recent visit last year, in everyday speech I heard ' une app ' but not ' une appli ', from computer nerd for-a-living great nephew in France.
