You normally use 'farouche' for animals which are wild and that you wouldn't want to approach.
In the case of the turtle it is indeed a pet, so 'timide' is better....
The term shy. The dictionary suggests “farouche” for animals, yet here “timide” is used. Is this because C is a pet and a more personal shy applies ?
