Translation of door

Question

My preferred dictionary, Wordreference, distinguishes a car door from an ordinary door in using the word, portière.   Should it not be accepted ?

Hi Frank,
If you take a look at the following page you will see that when you talk about the number of doors according to each model on a car you will use 'porte' and not portière.

The word 'portière'  exists for a car door but manufacturers and dealers only use it to indicate the part of the car and its use.
When talking about a particular model of a car you will be offered 
2 , 3 , 4 ou 5 portes
