I entered the text "nous avons croisé un écureuil" but your correction was "une écureuil" but your completed text shows "un" which is correct.

I have just done the exercise to see if the same thing happened to me but no,

un écureuil and l'écureuil

were accepted.

Could it have corrected another typing mistake?
