I'm getting confused as to how and when to use the verb convenir. Does 'to suit' mean as ' la rose va a ma sour?'

Hi Dot,

You will not use the verb  'convenir à quelqu'un' to mean to suit in the way of a garment like a dress.

It would be 'aller bien' -

La robe va bien à ma sœur

Ça convient bien à ma sœur de venir demain = It suits my sister very well to come tomorrow

'Convenir bien'  here means, it is acceptable or convenient to her and the preposition used is 'à'.

Hope this helps!

Think of "convenient" in English to give you a hint of the French meaning.

Ça vous convient de nous rendre visite demain? -- Does it suit you to visit us tomorrow. "Is it convenient for you to visit us tomorrow?"

Yes, but don't they mean the same thing?

ChrisC1 Kwiziq Q&A super contributor

They do in this context, but not in every context. Just as different as coming and going is in English.

viendrons à vs irons à?

Nous viendrons à ta soirée.

vs

Nous irons à ta soirée.

Qu'est que c'est la fonction de "ce que" ?

Dans la phrase "Elle retiendra son souffle jusqu'à ce que tu acceptes," pourquoi on  sert "ce que" ?

" jusqu'à ce que " is just a part of the expression, it means " until, " I don't know why, etymologically-wise, the " what/ce que, " is there either. I saw it in the dictionary a lot and yeah, it's just a way to say until before a subject pronoun (tu).
