Independence DaysThis week, we’re celebrating the countries that fought and are still fighting for Independence all around the world 🏳️🙂 As our US friends are celebrating their 4th of July this week, let’s look at some interesting facts about France’s contribution to the United States’s War of Independence. For example, did you know that the French monarchy supplied the American revolutionaries with crucial gunpowder, troops, and a navy, with the aim of weakening their rival, Great Britain? This nearly bankrupted the French crown, which triggered a domestic tax revolt, sparking the French Revolution just a few years later! France was also the very first country to officially recognise the United States as an independent nation on February 6, 1778. Bonne Fête de l’Indépendance ! 🇺🇸🇫🇷 Alors, sans plus attendre, break your shackles to unleash all the emancipating French Kwiziq content we’ve selected for you! ⛓️💥🤗 Quote me on this!Independence Leaders ![]() Let’s start this independence-fuelled Newsletter with some inspiring quotes from leaders who, around the world, led the struggles for independence of their respective countries : “L’Afrique écrira sa propre histoire et elle sera, au nord et au sud du Sahara, une histoire de gloire et de dignité.” (“Africa will write its own history, and it will be, north and south of the Sahara, a history of glory and dignity.” “La patrie n’est pas un vain mot. Elle est vivante dans le cœur de tous les Algériens. Sa résurrection est l’œuvre de tout un peuple.” (“Homeland is not an empty word. It lives in the heart of every Algerian. Its rebirth is the work of an entire people.” “Je n’ai qu’une envie, l’immense envie de voir notre pays totalement indépendant, notre peuple totalement libre, que chacun de nos compatriotes puisse avoir à manger, à apprendre, et un avenir.” (“I have only one desire: the immense desire to see our country completely independent, our people completely free, and every one of our fellow citizens able to have enough to eat, to learn, and to have a future.” Qui est-ce ? – Episode 9 🎖️The Guessing Game Podcast In this week’s episode of our “Qui est-ce ?” podcast series, Kwiziq’s super detectives Céline and I will give you clues (en français bien sûr !) to guess a very “independent” French historical figure. 🎖️🧐 So put on your thinking cap and enjoy all the extra practise content related to the podcast, like our special Fill-in-the-Blank exercise AND grammar Notebook! 🤩 And to help you practise your listening skills, these podcasts will be accompanied by some useful vocab, grammar lessons, an exclusive Fill-in-the-Blank exercise and interesting links to other exercises to investigate further! 🎧 Want to listen to more of our podcasts?
