In France, la Fête des Mères is typically celebrated on the last Sunday in May, unless it clashes with Pentecost/Whit Sunday, then it is delayed to the first Sunday in June. Though the idea to celebrate mothers had been around since the 19th century (Emperor Napoleon I proposed a day to honour mothers of large families in 1806 for example), Mother’s Day in its current festive form became official in France in 1950. Traditionally, French children treat their mothers to a petit-déjeuner au lit, or to the adorably infamous collier de nouilles (dry pasta necklace)! 🥐📿🩷
