In this “Qui est-ce ?” podcast series, Kwiziq’s own super detectives Aurélie and Céline will test your investigative skills as they give you clues (en français bien sûr !) to guess a famous Francophone personality. 🔠🔎 Your Investigative Vocabulary
Here’s some useful vocabulary featured in this podcast to help you conduct your investigation:

- un domaine d’investigation = an area of investigation
- s’attaquer à [quelque chose] = to take [something] on
- la monarchie = monarchy
- un indice = a clue
- un calepin = a notepad
- c’est parti ! = Here we go!
- une perruque = a wig
- des talons = heels
- luxueux = luxurious/fancy
- débattu(e) = debated
- l’État = the State
- concentrer les pouvoirs = to concentrate the powers
- le partage = sharing
- les arts et les lettres = arts and literature
- un siècle = a century
- devoir [quelque chose] à [quelqu’un] = to owe [someone] [something]
- ça se précise ! = we’re zeroing in/getting closer!
- détenir un record = to hold a record
- un règne = a reign
- le trône = the throne

Proper Nouns:
- Le Château de Versailles = the Palace of Versailles
- La Reine d’Angleterre = the Queen of England
🗒️🕵️♂️ Your Clue Notepad + Your Grammar Notebook
1. Ce monarque portait souvent une perruque immense, des talons rouges et des vêtements extrêmement luxueux.
2. Sa phrase la plus célèbre (même si elle est débattue par les historiens) est : “L’État, c’est moi”.
3. Il est qualifié de monarque “absolu”, car il concentrait tous les pouvoirs (législatif, exécutif, judiciaire) sans partage ni contrôle extérieur.
4. Il a encouragé les arts et les lettres, en protégeant des auteurs comme Molière ou Jean de La Fontaine.
5. On lui doit la construction de l’un des sites les plus visités au monde : le Château de Versailles.
6. Il détient le record du plus long règne de l’histoire de France : plus de 72 ans sur le trône.
7. On le surnomme “Louis le Grand” ou, plus couramment, “le Roi-Soleil”.
