How to ask a question ?

Can we say Avons-nous to mean "Have we" rather that "Est-ce'qu on a " ?

Hi Kevin,

In everyday speech, in a family situation, you would rarely use the 'nous' form but 'on' instead.

The inversion of subject and verb with 'on' is given as a possibility although rare again as it sounds more formal too.

A-t-on des poivrons ? Do we have peppers?

I hope this helps

Hi Kevin,

In face-to-face contact perhaps it is more clear to signal a question with qu'est-ce que ... To use the inversion question construction is perhaps best used in the written word as I understand it.

Bonne journée

Jim
