Leur/Leurs

Hi - Can someone tell me why 'leurs' was not used when the parents were plural and the presents as well?

Thank you!

Bonjour Elaine,

I think the sentence you are quoting from is -

... je leur montrerai tous mes nouveaux jouets = I will show them all our new toys

leur = à mes parents

Because the verb is 'montrer à quelqu'un ' you should replace it with an indirect object pronoun, as highlighted by Maarten.

'Leurs' a plural possessive adjective would be in sentences like -

J'aime beaucoup leurs parents I really like their parents

Leurs amis nous ont contactés = Their friends contacted us

The lesson is attached here -

Notre/nos/votre/vos/leur/leurs = our/your/their (French Possessive Adjectives)

 I hope this answers your confusion between the two very similar words.

Elaine,

I don’t hear any use of the possessive adjectives leur/leurs in the linked lesson, only the indirect object pronoun ‘ leur ‘, - ‘ je leur montrerai … ‘ which is invariable.

Is this the sentence you are querying or have I missed something ?

 Using lui/leur = him or her/them (French Indirect Object Pronouns)
