use of 'ne' with avant que

One of the correct options used "avant que" without the "ne". I gather this is permissible sometimes?

Hi Kathleen,

Just to add to Maarten's answer this is the lesson referring to 'avant que' and the 'ne explétif' -

Bonne Continuation!

My wife is French - she would use and say the 'ne explétif' before the subjunctive verb after «avant que», but notes that it would not be at all uncommon for it not to be said. That fits with the lesson noting that it can be dropped in speech, and therefore it is reasonable when translating informal speech to include or exclude 'ne', as the translator thinks appropriate.
