En vs DansI think the British and American English are a bit different, so I'm still not quite clear on this. So does "Nous avons mangé en 40 minutes" means we ate for 40 minutes? The duration of our meal was 40 minutes? It took us 40 minutes to eat? And "Nous mangerons dans une heure" means we will have to wait for another hour before we can eat, right?

Identify regional gendersHi The rule - use en if feminine and dans le if masculine - is easy to follow. The question is - other than for UK -shires, how on earth do we know if a region or province is masculine or feminine, or falls into the 'au' (rather than 'en' or 'dans le') camp ? More help (or at least examples) please. Thanks.

Is there an 'appropriacy' issue with 'c'est à moi' over 'c'est le miens'? Would one be be considered more formal than the other? (If so, which one!) Thanks.

Futur vs ConditionnelOne quiz reads:"Tu _____ m'aider après manger ?" (Will you be able to help me after eating?) and we're supposed to enter Le Futur of "pouvoir". But why Futur? As there appears to be some doubt as to whether the person addressed can help, why aren't we using Le Conditionnel ?

Perhaps I'm just not getting this?Above, you say: C'est in sentences "it is + a/the/my... + thing" C'est une jolie robe. It is a pretty dress. The sentence above is referring to a specific dress, otherwise how could we say it is pretty? Yet, further down the page, I read this: "...Il est/elle est for statements and opinions related to specific things: Tu aimes mon pull ? -Oui, il est très beau. Do you like my sweater? -Yes, it's very nice..." According the this, the sentence should be: "Elle est une jolie robe".

use of plus-que parfaitAs a first step into B2 territory, I'm trying to understand how/when this tense is used. My first idea is that it is used in a "story- telling" way. e.g. Elles étaient allées manger une glace. They had gone to eat an ice cream.... Thus they were not home when the tree fell in their house. Or: "I know a tree fell on their house- are they okay? Yes, they had gone to eat an ice cream." So, am I going in the right direction as far as understanding how this tense is used?
