Hi all. there are 3 examples of using tout meaning everything, and the position of the words varies each time, can someone please explain why/ the difference, thanks
This question relates to:French lesson "Tout/tous/toute/toutes = Everything/all (of them)/whole/completely in French"

Bonjour Lana,
Depending on its function, tout (when meaning everything) will be positioned differently in a sentence:
Tout est parfait = Everything is perfect
Tout a été annulé = Everything got cancelled
-> subject
J'oublie tout = I forget everything
J'oublais tout = I used to forget everything
J'ai tout oublié = I forgot everything
J'avais tout oublié = I had forgotten everything
-> direct object - its position varies depending on the tense used (Simple tenses such as Le Présent or L'Imparfait / Compound tenses such as Le Passé Composé or Le Plus-que-Parfait).
I hope this is helpful.
Bonne journée !
