Why plural?

Why plural?

Why "prêts", and not "prêt"? "On", the subject of the sentence is singular.  Should not the adjective also be singular?

Hi James,

The text says - 

 "... qu'on soit prêts ou pas, notre vie ..."

Since it refers to several people, on counts as a plural and the -s is added.
