Passé Composé possible alternative in the sentence commencing 'Maintenant que ses parents ...'With reference to the sentence: - Maintenant que ses parents n'étaient plus là, elle devait s'occuper de sa sœur.Now that her parents were gone, she HAD TO take care of her sister.... I'm not sure I understand how the meaning of the sentence would change if the Passé Composé was used i. e. Maintenant que ses parents n'étaient plus là, elle a dû s'occuper de sa sœur. Could you please advise. Thank you

Here's a sentence from the lesson - J'attendrai jusqu'à ce qu'il ait terminé. I'll wait until after he's finished. Why has 'after' been added.

I learned that aimer is used only for people including children, not for things. For things you use adorer, which can also be used for people.

Marie's cat, again.

My question is about putting "Marie caressait son chat" into the La Voix Passive. I have read Skylar's comment and the answers to her question. I agree with Ron, that "Le chat de Marie..." resolves the ambiguity of whose cat it is. So, I wrote: "Le chat de Marie etait caressait par elle" which was marked wrong. Could someone explain why this is wrong?
