Time bewteen two dates

There is a question out there concerning two dates. The given answer is 'du quatre au sept'. Would 'du 4 au 7' be equally correct? If not, what is the difference?

Usage of an and année

In the sentence starting, "L'année dernière, j'ai découvert . . .," isn't "last year" referring to a unit of time that happened once, so wouldn't "l'an dernier" be correct? I thought "l'année dernière" would indicate that the discovery happened multiple times over the course of a year. Please advise.

Proper auxillary

The lesson says: - We use the auxiliary verb être conjugated in a compound tense*, followed by the past participle of the verb. However, all the examples use avoir, not etre. I'm assuming etre is a mistake.

Can a direct object be used with 'en' (le, la, l', les etc) as it is with 'y'?

Is it that the sentence construction - eg the verb - will never need a direct pronoun with 'en' as happens with 'y'?

Or is it the the examples just haven't shown a direct object?

using le as a pronounI should know this, but can you tell me when using le as a pronoun which comes after the preposition 'de' is the rule that it never becomes' Du'?

I incorrectly did that with the following sentence

Mais quand ma meilleure amie Miriam a décidé de le faire
