Simple Past - why/when?

Hi, the text seems to sometimes, but not that often, use the Passé Simple (e.g. from the text: adoptèrent, acceptèrent).

I know that this tense is used almost exclusively in written, as opposed to spoken, French. Do you have any other guidelines on when this tense is invoked, as it seems to be used only occasionally even in a single piece of written French.

Just a small typo here. It of course should be “about France” or “about the French”.

Adjectives before or after the noun?

When does "fou" come before or after the noun? I was playing with Google Translate to hear in one sentence between "the crazy horse, the crazy cow, the crazy man." It came up "Le cheval fou, la vache folle, l'homme fou."

“I’d” equals “I had” (as, I had taken no pleasure...or, I had never asked to go). Why do you use passè composé instead of plus que parfait?

I thought, incorrectly, “je n’y avais eu pris aucun plaisir”; et “je n’y avais eu demandé d’y retourner.”

Votre voiture est petite. - Oui, mais c'est petit dans mon garage.

It's a bit weird...
Votre voiture est petite. - Oui, mais c'est petit dans mon garage.
translated to: Your car is small. - Yes, but my garage is small

hmm... having the first part of the dialogue: 'Votre voiture est petite.'
the given correct answer: 'Oui, mais c'est petit dans mon garage.' sounds to me as: Yes, but it (the car) is small in my garage.

now, the English 'Yes, but my garage is small' I would rather say in French: 'Oui, mais mon garage est petit.'

I might be wrong but this french statement / opinion example is somewhat not the best one here
anyone to explain this ?
