I’m interested to know how you’d say "this time last year" in French? In English, it emphasises that it’s an exact period ago, so more precise than "il y a un an".
I noticed that for the two verbs that have to do with thoughts croire and savoir, the example phrases are negated. Are you able to use these verbs in positive sentences with passé composé or is it more appropriate to use the imparfait since it’s hard to know how long and how many times something was thought or believed?

These sentences are so similar that I don't understand why one uses "avoir" and the the other "etre." Don't they both have a direct object? "He walked down (the boulevard)", and "she went up (the hill)". I'm missing something!
