In the beginning of the text, according to the context, "j'ai travaillé" could very well have been "je travaillais".
In fact, the second is more probable since it fits better: "A few years ago I was working at..." as opposed to " A few years ago I worked at..."
I understand the use of the conditional but why is it not acceptable to have "arriverait" instead of "serait"?

Should this not be: move around/ travel?
chance, tort and raison are all nouns, and we use "de la chance" but it is not the case for tort and raison.
When using avoir as the auxilliary verb in the passe compose, I thought that the past participle had to agree with the direct object... so in the previous exercise there was:
"Nous avons nouri nos chiens" ...are not les chiens the direct object of the verb in that sentence?
"il a fini ses devoirs" ...are not les devoirs the direct object of that sentence...?
...I guess I have got something very wrong here... grateful for any guidance...

Could someone comment on the function of “au” in “très au sérieux”? It is optional? In which other circumstances might we see a similar thing?
