Why is this text written mostly in present tense but translated in past tense? How can we know when it's appropriate to use this technique to make our own storytelling easier?

Can "se passer" be used with dates?  Like, "Quand se passe le jour de la Bastille" or "Noel se passe le 25 décembre".

Bonjour, can you let me know if I understand 'new' correctly or just simplifying it too much, my notes are:

Neuf - used after noun but only if the item you are speaking of is brand new (but not on living things)
Neuve - used after noun but only if the item is new to you but not necessarily brand new
Nouveau - is the masculine form and used before consonants
Nouvel - is the masculine form and used before vowels
Nouvelle - is the feminine form and used before nouns OR  vowels

Does that sound right?

When you say "Believe me," do you say, "vous me croyez" or "vous croyez en moi"?  Are these the same thing?

Dans «longues dents pointues», «long» est avant le nom mais dans «cheveux longs», «long est après le nom. Pourquoi ?

"Nous jouons aux cartes" could mean we are playing cards or refer to a specif time they play cards. 

Could one say " Nous faisons des cartes" in answer to a general question about whether or not a family or group know how to play cards?  They coud actually be learning to play bridge for example. 

Tell your friend: "Wake up!": ________ !(HINT: se réveiller = to wake up)My answer is Réveillez-vous, and why is it not correct?
