No-one would use " They had had to retake the exam," in written or spoken English. One would possibly say "They'd had to retake the exam", but the simplest form "They had to retake the exam", is the commonest usage.

Mieux vs meilleurCorrect answer in test: "Elle (referring to la maison) est mieux que l'autre. In the lesson the example is "Les bonbons sont meilleurs que.... Noun + Etre +..meilleur or mieux. I would have thought it would be meilleure. $

Puisque /parce queIn writing challenge A2 week 49 (?late March 2017) it says: - They're very expensive, these phones! - Yes, granny but it's because you can go on the internet --> Oui, mamie. mais c'est parce qu'on peut aller sur internet. Since mamie already knows the phones are expensive, shouldn't it be "puisqu'on peut" ?

''Qu'aiment-ils?'' I understand why this is a contraction of "Que aiment" and therefore means What do they like, but why can't it also be a contraction of "Qui aiment" and therefore Who do they love?

Quelques ou plusieurs?

Wasn't sure which forum to ask this question as it relates to a different topic but this is the attached forum so I'll ask it here:

The statement and translation :

J’ai un cheveu blanc. – Non, tu as plusieurs cheveux blancs !

I have one white hair. – No, you have a few white hairs!

In this example the word ‘plusieurs’ was used to mean ‘a few’ but in the lesson “Quelques, plusieurs, de nombreux = A few, several, many (quantities), ‘plusieurs’ means several and quelques means ‘a few’. Is there a nuance in usage here?
