can i say "il est midi cinq" to mean it is 5 past noon?
Why is this marked wrong?? Constant ends in ant:
Bernard travaille ________.Bernard works constantly.(HINT: French "constant" = English "constant")
This was the correct answer: constamment
My answer was marked incorrect: constammant, but WHY: constant ens in ant = should be constammant ThanksSalut!

This passage uses potirons for pumpkins, but last year didn't we have citrouilles for pumpkins? Are they two words for the same thing or is there a slight difference for using each one?

Excellent. But is is hardly 'Beginners' French. Those who really are genuinely new to the language would be put off by the linguistic demands of these pieces.
The linked article on saints’ days gives "la Sainte-Catherine" as an alternative to "le jour de la Sainte Catherine’ but it’s marked wrong in the exercise.
Also wanted to say I appreciate Maarten’s discourse on "washerwoman" - to my British ears it’s distinctly perjorative and laundress is more neutral.
Great idea! But it would be a big help if the "Only free", "Only incomplete", "Only completed" & "Only not started" selection options were available for the Reading practice like they are for the Listening practice & the Writing practice. Without that after a while it gets a bit difficult to keep track of it all.
This lesson indicates that mal - badly, but why do we say j'ai mal à la tête instead of j'ai mauvais à la tête?
