hi,
when you guys have this sentence as an example un riche comme cresus homme it was marked wrong is that because it should have something else describing the riche? Also as i'm searching to understand this should i treat these as like the similie and metaphors as we do in english?
thank you
nicole
Can you also use the verb détester as in je déteste
I have no idea what this story is about. Very frustrating. Also, the audio was way too fast and running together.
I'm even more confused now. You say that you use the present subjunctive when the time frame of the 2 clauses are contemporaneous. It seems to me that in English the tenses are the same eg "I started" and "everybody warned" are both in the past tense. However, in the french translation it shows "commence" in present (subjunctive) and "tout le monde m'avait prévenu" in the pluperfect. Can you help please
Thanks
Following an answer in a recent quiz I took, an apparently acceptable way to say I remember Quebec is "Je me rappelle le Québec."
The rules of how and why this is acceptable are not explained in this lesson, and it doesn't conform to what I've learnt elsewhere. For example, the definite article is left out when expressing like/dislike of cities: "J'aime Paris et Londres."
When and why is it acceptable to use the definite article (rather than de) immediately following "se rappeler"?
Is not prendre in the imperative in "Tiens, prends leur numéro de téléphone" in which case shouldn't the 's' be dropped in prends ?
Did anyone else have trouble understanding this sentence?
Can you please explain when 'de' is used before a number in French?
- Le nombre de décès a été de 54600. (Does it mean 'was at' or ' was about'?)- La population a augmenté l'année dernière de 3,46,000 personnes. (Does it mean 'increased to' or 'increased by' here?)
- Le prix est de 500 dollars.
And, is there a general rule about using "de" before numbers? Please explain?
