I am new here. Please I find it difficult to identify when le or les is pronounced. The same goes for de/du.Is there any way I can always identify each of these when pronounced?

J'ai passéI'm so confused. Why is it "J'ai passé un an en Espagne" but "J'ai passé la journée avec Martin"? Why is one talking about the duration while the other is not?

How do you replace a noun with a preposition other than à or de please?Il faut que j’achète un cadeau pour son anniversaire. I must buy a present for his birthday. I know you can use the adverbial pronoun y to replace 'à + noun', and en to replace 'de + noun', but how would you replace 'pour son anniversaire' in the sentence above please? In order to make the sentence: I must buy a present for it? [Am i right in thinking this called replacing an object of a preposition with a pronoun?]

M'a fait mal

I almost never get an answer to my questions, but I will try once more. I learned that ," J'ai mal a la tete" meant "My head hurts," or "I have a headache, (sorry but don't know the keystrokes here to get accent symbols). Now, in this exercise, it's using "faire" rather than "avoir" to express physical discomfort, but the answer concenrates only on the use of possessive adjectives, not the strange change from "avoir" to "faire." I feel frustrated and very confused. Help!
