How do you say 'she had just left' - 'elle venait de partir'or 'elle était venue de partir''She had left' suggests the pluperfect, but it's hard to apply the construction for ’just left'

In the example,

C'est un bel animal parmi de beaux animaux.

why is the 'de' not plural for 'des', as we are talking about 'some beautiful animals'?

Not a single friend"if I wanted to say he has no friends I would write il n'a aucun ami. In english he has no friends is a little different form He hasn't a single friend, that is why I did not use aucun. how in french can one stress not a single friend because their is a difference in english"

Lack of pas in written languageI have quite often noticed that pas or other negative word is missing in written French, in newspapers and in books. I don't have an example at hand, though. Why is this and when can it happen?
