s'améliorer vs améliorer

"We improved rapidly" why is this "nous nous sommes rapidement améliorés" instead of "nous avons rapidement amélioré"? I have no idea when to make a verb reflexive!

What is the difference when saying dans le and au for masculine countries? and how to know when to use either? does dans le mean in the country and au means to the country??

I got my ba vs i received my baIn the lesson il,a eu so ba is translated as he got his ba but in the quiz as he received his ba. Are they the same. Received seems like an award ceremony but got more like passed?

Also confused about inversion being more formal. I learned that Qu'est-ce que vous aimez? is more formal than Qu'aimez vous?. Did I learn it wrong?

Puis-je Prends? Hello, when asking for food, is it more correct to say 'puis- je prends" rather than puis-je avoir? Thanks
