peur du vide vs le vertige

So in an earlier exercise, "I love swimming," you had a possible answer for fear of heights as "peur du vide" but not in this one. Is there a reason why?

Leur pouce vs Le/La/Les pouce

Elsewhere on the site, there is an example sentence: Ils sucent encore leur pouce. They're still sucking their thumbs. Why doesn't leur pouce become le/la/les pouce(s)?

Question on an exampleJulie a vraiment envie de chocolat = May I ask why this does not read as du chocolat? Since it's le chocolat? Or is it because in this context, this refers to some chocolat - but even then I didn't understand why du gets dropped - wouldn't it be envie du chocolat?

J'essaie or j'essaye

Hello, I typed 'j'essaie' but it corrected to 'j'essaye'. However, under the 'you could also say' section, it said 'j'essaie' was correct. Thanks!

Pronounce final "s" in exprès or not

It could be due to my own hearing problems but I think I hear the final "s" on exprès pronounced in some examples and others not. Would you please clarify, is final "s" pronounced or not? thanks!
