Is there a simple explanation for why "de" is needed in "Tu as de la chance" but not in "La voiture à la droite a la priorité? Merci!
What the best way to say "I will not go" in French
Hi. There used to be a button to repeat the exercise once you'd finished it? At this level it's really useful to be able to do that.
- Tom et Sophia sont très différents ; l'un est calme et l'autre hyperactif.
- Sophia et Tom sont très différents ; l'un est calme et l'autre hyperactif.
Does it matter the Order in which the Male or Female is used, and hence the usage of l'un or l'une ?? How is this decided? Because l'autre is always gender neutral anyways.
What does this mean, kindly illustrate it with an example.
When the subject of your interrogative sentence is a noun, this one comes first and it's then repeated by the matching pronoun
Like chris w I find this one difficult every time it comes round, due to the English translations given -
1. the English "certain" can carry either of the two meanings described here
2. "particular" also has several meanings, but it’s usually specific and not at all vague. Perhaps some more examples would help?
The recommended translation for 'what a powerful voice that man had!' is 'quelle voix puissante avait cet homme !'. I don't actually see this usage of inversion covered in any grammar guides. Is it the norm to invert subject and verb in a sentence beginning with an exclamatory adjective?
I would have thought (and did!) that it should be "ces héros ont souffert de la discrimination" rather than "ces héros ont souffert de discrimination"; in the same way that "ces héros ont subi de la discrimination" was noted as a correct answer.
Is there something specific to "souffrir de" that causes the article to be dropped?
