Je fumais depuis des années quand j’ai décidé d’arrêterThe English translation that you give is not normally what one would say. We would say “I had been smoking...” not “I was smoking...”...the plus perfect not the imperfect. In French would one ever use the plus que parfait as we do in English?

'En' other uses

When 'in' is used in other contexts, apart from physical locations, would 'en' be used?

E.g. En réalité - In reality

Je suis fort en langues vivantes - I am strong in Foreign Languages

En industrie du bâtiment - In the building industry

Ces médicaments sont en sirop - This medication is in (the form of) syrup

Paul est rentré en colère - Paul returned home in Anger

Singular or plural?I thought that 'family' implied plural for the answer - where did I go wrong please? Faire de, jouer àJust wondering if it might be possible to add a note after the end of the examples for »jouer à/au » and sport saying NB when you play an instrument however you say « jouer à la/au » just to remind people that jouer is used in this way also???

If Je becomes j' with verbs beginning with a vowel..

Then how come an example is ‘J’habite à Londres?’

learning French language or learning how to use a computerSince I am «old school» and did not grow up with computers, I am always curious if the online educational sites are for the purpose of simply getting people to learn to use a computer correctly or if they are for the purpose of learning the subject matter presented. To that goal, is this a user group to learn the French language or to learn the computer usage with the French language as the medium? I hope someone can/will answer this.
