Beyond the challenging dictée : What a beautiful, inspiring write-up. Falling deeper in love with French culture. Can't wait to google Coluche after supper. Merci!

Why is it "des" here, when there is (presumably) only one Martine?
Not sure if anyone is gonna read this, but for those that are from countries where a billion means a million million, french uses the word billion as well.
This page confused me a bit since Spanish is my first language and in that language we generally use billion the same way as French, whereas the one thousand million meaning is mostly used in the English speaking world.
Can't find a unifying rule for both these. Shouldn't it. Either:
Jolie sac & bleu robe
Or:
Sac Jolie & robe bleue
"Note that, like for dates in general..." is incorrect English. It should be "Note that, as for dates in general..." or "Note that, like dates in general..."
In one quiz, a sentence reads J'étais comme votre fils, jusqu'à ce qu'un jour, j'aille dans la bibliothèque de mon quartier,et que je me mette à dévorer les romans “Donjons & Dragons”. I filled the blanks correctly because the tips said to use the subjunctive, but I don't understand why the subjunctive is used here. "I was like your son until one day I went to the library ...", something that definitely happened in the past, so I would have written "je suis allé dans la bibliothèque ... et je me suis mis à dévorer ..." I'm also surprised by the second "que" before "je me mette". Can you give me some insight?
One question was: Je __ ai invité pour Thanksgiving.
The next was: Je __ ai appris que la France...
The answer given for the first was "je l'ai" and for the second was "je lui ai."
