Punctuation isn't mentioned in the dictation so should not be counted in the score (feedback from my year 11 students).
Hi. I thought negative opinions were followed by the subjunctive and translated the above sentence thus: Je ne pensais pas que ce soit si intéressant. Is that incorrect?
Thanks
Less commonly, à + indirect object may be replaced with the adverbial pronoun y:
Il y pense. He’s thinking about her. J’y fais référence. I’m referring to them. On s’y habitue. We’re getting used to him.Found these here : https://www.lawlessfrench.com/grammar/indirect-objects-2/ So y seems to be able to replace people? In this sentence - I can hear "impatient" - without the e.
Why is this not 'Je ne lui pensais guere' please?
How would you say "someone hadn't lived there since [insert year]"
Hello. Would it make a subtle difference if we use "on doit" instead of "on devrait" in this context? What would be the difference? Thank you.
In the sentence, "Chaque après-midi, dès que la cloche sonnait la fin de l'école, je courais jusqu'à la devanture alléchante de la mercerie Arnaud qui regorgeait de bobines de fil coloré, de boutons enchanteurs et autres tissus à motifs, tous plus attrayants les uns que les autres.", there appear to be a series of nouns associated with the verb, regorger de. We have de bobines, de boutons, but tissus (not de tissus). Why isn't it d'autres tissus to follow the pattern ?
This sentence is missing in the audio.
Somewhere in my past studies, I was told that using "bien" with "aimer" actually lessens its meaning from love to like. Did I get that wrong, because in my recent lessons, it's used more as an intensifier. Sorry if I missed this on the thread before.
